Success is a result, not a goal
We don't chase numbers. We do right things and try our best every day — and the results, 48 years of them, take care of themselves.
In 1978, Harold Shumate started fixing furnaces and air conditioners near Stone Mountain. Forty-eight years later, his family still runs the company — and a live person still answers every single call.
Harold Shumate founded the company near Stone Mountain in 1978 with a simple idea: do right things, try your best every day, and the phone keeps ringing.
The idea worked. Shumate grew through Tucker in the 1980s, and by 1998 the company had built and moved into an 85,000-square-foot headquarters in Duluth's Sugarloaf Business Park — where we still dispatch from today.
Now roughly 450 people work under the Shumate roof, including our commercial arm, Shumate Mechanical, and we've served more than 300,000 Atlanta-area customers. The company remains family-owned into its second and third generations: Sandy Shumate, President and Owner; Lisa Shumate, Vice President; and Jeff Johnson, General Manager.

Every address change and every hire has served the same idea Harold started with: answer the call, and do the job right.
Harold Shumate opens the doors with a truck, a toolbox, and a habit of picking up the phone.
Word of mouth outgrows the first shop. Shumate expands through Tucker to keep pace with a growing customer list.
Shumate builds and occupies an 85,000-square-foot headquarters at 2805 Premiere Pkwy in Sugarloaf Business Park — home base ever since.
Shumate earns Better Business Bureau accreditation — and has held an A+ rating ever since.
Family-owned into the third generation, with about 450 team members serving more than 300,000 Atlanta-area customers — and still answering 24/7/365.

Our technicians build careers here, not resumes. The team almost never leaves — which means the person in your hallway has probably been in a thousand hallways like it.
A live person picks up 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. No phone trees, no voicemail. It's been true since 1978, and it isn't changing.

Every year, Shumate donates $1 for every maintenance visit we perform to a community cause — and our customers help choose where it goes.
It's a small mechanism with an honest logic: the more homes we keep comfortable, the more we give back to the neighborhoods those homes sit in. After 300,000+ customers, it adds up.
